DC Fashionistas Warm Up Worn Magazine Launch Event

On this clear but chilly Friday night, you see swarms of the beautiful, the fabulous and the fashionably dressed. They are sipping the never-ending flow of Champagne, discussing art, new designers and of course the third issue of Worn Magazine. The crowd is bumping elbows in a gorgeous museum filled with installations of modern work. You might think this event was a scene right out of New York City, but alas, it is right here in our very own Washington, DC!

Lucky me, last night I attended the Worn Magazine Launch Party at The Art Museum of the Americas to celebrate their third issue. Firstly, what an amazing and breathtaking venue! The whole museum was open for our disposal, but the real party was outside. On the rocks overlooking the garden, complete with sculptures, reflecting pool and gravel paths, tables of vodka and champagne completed the scene. A live band rocked the outdoors while the DJ lit up the beautifully tiled blue indoors, maintaining a buzz wherever we roamed.

Preferring much warmer weather I tend to choose function over fashion, but I have to give it to daring fashion divas – they strutted their stuff in true fashionista form! A well run and fashionably executed event, I was honored to speak with volunteers, museum and magazine staff, and local artists and fashion lovers there to be surrounded by the aesthetics and creativity. I also learned that Worn Magazine is run entirely by people who donate their time and efforts because they believe in the cause. The magazine is funded by grants, and events like these!* So not only do you attend and have a swanky good time, but you are helping grow and produce future issues of this local magazine. We continuously hear how DC is the “uptight and political city of America”, but magazines, enthusiasts and events like these show a more creative, cultural and artistic side of the city that I hope everyone will embrace and appreciate.
If you are interested in learning more about Worn Magazine, Lisa Byrne previewed the event including an interview with Editor, Nicole Aguirre, check it out!
What’s Next? I’m attending Cherry Blast III tonight! Join me, or check back here for a recap tomorrow!
*Worn Magazine is supported in part by a 2011 Small Projects Grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and features fashion photography and clothes from local designers and boutiques, interviews with local artists, and much more.

[...] Beautiful people, endless bottles of champagne, supporting the arts, all underneath the moonlight in one of the most powerful cities in the free world. I felt like I was in an episode of Gossip Girl. I had so much fun at the Worn Magazine launch at the Art Museum of the Americas.
