My Journey to Health and Wellness…and Bootcamp Begins [on the blog]

| 04/18/2011

There’s so many things I want to achieve in life, that each day from the moment I rise to the moment I allow myself to sleep I often feel like I’m missing the goal line. Please note that I am well aware that I have only myself to blame for this! But lately I’ve felt this struggle has increased and it’s forced me to examine my priorities, lifestyle and daily habits. What I found was a poor diet, lack of sleep, and an unhealthy weight – factors that no doubt were inhibiting my ability to perform at my best. Never known to be beat down, I immediately re-prioritized my health and wellness and committed to a regular exercise routine, healthier eating, and an immediate trip to my doctor.

What’s Up Doc?

“Lisa, you’re 10 lbs over your healthy body weight, you have high cholesterol (the bad kind), and your blood pressure is high - to the point of medication if you don’t get it down over the next three months.” Um, yeah, not cool.

Action 4 Results

You can’t change your daily habits until you change your priorities…and as busy as we are one can’t argue that we don’t have time for everything we prioritize. Albeit very hard to do, re-ranking my health was the first and foremost action I had to take.

Diet: Get real. It’s hard to attend events and not nom on top chef bites! However, I can control my breakfast, lunch, and some dinners. I was never a big junk food fan but I do enjoy the convenience of ordering in after a long day and evening. This is something I have committed to change. It’s really not that difficult to grill protein and steam a half plate of veggies.

Exercise: This was a bigger challenge given my inability to stick to a recurring schedule at the gym. I reflected on my finer moments and recalled my most stressful years in Miami where I executed six weddings each weekend yet found time for bootcamp, pilates, yoga and running… every single week. What’s up Lisa? Excuses. And it’s time to eliminate those – and the ability to create more. Soooo…in true form I’ve decided to share my fitness journey, thus holding myself responsible and accountable for the action and the result.

So, I’ve teamed up with Grant Hill, life-long competitive athlete, fitness enthusiast and fitness entrepreneur. Founder of MyBootcamp, Grant is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist, Golf Conditioning Specialist, Performance Enhancement Coach and is TRX certified…and after just one day – he’s kicking my ass. Check out the video for a prelude of the madness (I heart iMovie!), and follow the wins, rants, and laughs via my Twitter @DCeventjunkie and the #MyBootcamp tag. A photo journal of the training can be found on Facebook and I’ll continue to blog some updates here on DCeventjunkie.com under LISA’S BLOG.

God help me! Wish me luck!!
