August Notes from the Editor

| 08/29/2011

Jessie Spielvogel

It’s been many months since I posted an editor’s note, apologies! My drive for renewed health and fitness moved my focus to personal posts but I’m back on track with the monthly for those of you following along. Lots has been happening so I’ll condense it as best I can…

We’re seeking an Intern!

We’re seeking a social savvy intern who’s interested in the events industry and can commit 5-8 hours each week this Fall. Applicants should have an existing presence on multiple social networks and be passionate about meeting people and building relationships. DCeventjunkie is launching a pretty big event this season and you can be part of it! Read more on our Facebook page.

Announcing our newest writer to DCeventjunkie.com

Super excited to introduce Jessie Spielvogel, our newest contributor to DCeventjunkie.com. Jessie is a Texas State journalism grad and recent transplant to DC. Currently interning with a public affairs firm in Alexandria, Jessie is active on the Washington events scene and is anxious to hunt out more fun food, restaurant, and networking events to ensure you know where to go! You can find her on Twitter @jspielvogel and look out for her upcoming posts here on DCeventjunkie. If you wish to submit events for consideration directly to Jessie you can reach her via email to jessie@dceventjunkie.com.

DCeventjunkie partners with local non-profits in support of their events

You may have seen some posts on Washington Empowered Against Violence (WEAVE) or the March of Dimes recently as I am acting as Social Media Committee Chair for each of their upcoming events. These are volunteer positions where we’ve gathered a team of savvy online networkers and bloggers for each event to help spread awareness for the cause and increase event attendance.

It’s been a fun journey working with Grant Hill since April of this year. What started off as my journey to health and fitness has turned into a smashing success story and a budding blogging relationship! In addition to achieving all of my health and fitness goals within three months, I was elated to be honored as a Health Hero on Washingtonian Magazine’s Well+Being Blog this past week. Moving forward I’ll have less blog posts dedicated to my own personal fitness — you can find them over on my new blog with Grant The Trainer and The Client.

Earlier this month I was named one of DC’s nineteen women to meet in Capitol File Magazine’s Black Book! Currently the story is partially accessible online here and the photo gallery is available here. Assuming it to be nothing more than a “black book” I was moved to read the published introduction:

“To prove just how attractive DC is to the movers and shakers of the world, we corralled 36 of the city’s most-eligible men and women who are making a mark—and a difference—in this town. From the artistic and the athletic to the entrepreneurial, this group of high achievers is worth getting to know. Here they tell us why you should make their acquaintance.” — Capitol File Magazine, August 2011

I’m going to end this with a note on how it’s actually been difficult for me to push out “yay me” posts and updates. But I’ve learned the long way that we need to be our own biggest cheerleaders at times. It’s especially difficult when you are a one-woman business and the “yays” are usually “me” wins…but I’ve learned there’s a difference between blatant egotistical self-promotion and ensuring that people know the successes you’ve worked hard to achieve. So yeah, yay me!

Thanks for reading and for your continued support of DCeventjunkie, it’s truly appreciated.
