Last Minute Labor Day Getaway Deals

| 08/30/2011

The end of long, humid summer days is quickly approaching and autumn beckons with the onset of Labor Day weekend. You’ve been working hard and the months have flown by without a break. You begin to panic, wondering can you survive the blistering cold winter season without experiencing a true summer vacay? This weekend is your last chance to dig your toes in some beachfront sand, or catch a few rays of sunshine on a tranquil outdoor retreat, so you can proclaim you had a real summer holiday. Check out a few of my recommended websites to plan a quick excursion without breaking the bank or spending hours researching the perfect destination.

Sign up for Travelzoo.com’s trademarked Top 20 weekly deals email to find unbelievable vacation packages to the best hotels and resorts around the world. Travelzoo is fairly simple to navigate and redirects you to the website offering the advertised deal. I found tons of fun-filled options for the upcoming weekend on their dedicated Labor Day Deals page, including a Bermuda cruise, Puerto Rico getaway or all-inclusive stay at a Dominican Republic resort.

Spontaneous, savvy travelers are currently being courted by big-name daily deal sites who’ve begun to sell attractive, yet deeply discounted travel packages to luxury hotels and secluded hideaways with fantastic upgrades and add-ons. The catch is you must buy a voucher within a specified period of time that can be used for a future reservation, and some exclusions apply in the fine print. Most exclusions are minimal and vary from resort to resort. Also, airfare is typically not included.

My favorites are Livingsocial.com Escapes and Groupon Getaways for a top-notch selection of upscale, romantic destinations ranging from the quaint to exotic. Current offers include resorts in Canada, Cozumel or Nicaragua, making it super easy to click on a deal, grab your passport and experience some last minute rest and relaxation. Joining in on the travel deal party are lesser-known but equally credible sites, bloomspot.com Travel Getaways and BuyWithMe.com Destinations. Look for packages that are closer to home and may not even require the purchase of airfare. I found picture-perfect discounts at a few B&B’s in New Hampshire and Middleburg, Virginia, which may include a voucher towards dinner for two or a day at the spa.

If air travel is required, or even a car rental, search for the best prices at Kayak.com. I only use this search engine for all my travel needs, saving myself a lot of time and even more money. Sign up to receive price alerts, gain insight on recent fare trends, look up airline fees and send in your bookings and reservations for easy access through their smart phone app. Kayak meets all your travel needs on one simple, yet extremely innovative site. Go ahead, spend a few minutes online to plan a Labor Day getaway and enjoy the last few days of summer while it’s still here.
