September is Women of Achievement Month — DC Women in Media

| 08/31/2011

Did you know that September is the Women of Achievement month, a time to celebrate the feats of great women, both big and small? This led me to think about some of the women in DC media that have crossed my path, influenced me, or impressed me in some manner along the way. The best part of my trip down memory lane was realizing their huge accomplishments and recent successes!

Angie Goff
That voice that wakes you up on WUSA9 and that face around town, the fabulous Angie Goff, recently announced she’ll be joining NBC Washington as the weekend morning anchor. Go Angie! She promises that her famed local blog will stay around – revamped and retuned and ready to rock very soon!

Brooke Ryan
A new face and voice to Washington DC, Brooke Ryan rocks your morning as co-host on Mix 107.3′s Jack Diamond Show. Moving from Charleston for this huge opportunity Brooke’s loving DC and has only just begun. A brazen lass with a laugh that thrills, Brooke is a gal about town and making a splash – find out what’s she’s been up to on her blog.

Kate Michael
If ever a lady covered more ground in heels whilst never breaking a sweat it’s Miss Michael! Where has she not been or seen? Kate’s got DC down and she shares it all on her online lifestyle magazine K Street Kate. Last month K Street Kate celebrated their fifth anniversary at the Press Club, announcing their new tagline Livin’ La Vida Local – the prefect compliment to her many successes. Congratulations Kate!

Kelly Collis
Already a successful business woman, founder of CityShopGirl Kelly Collis recently joined The Tommy Show on 94.7 Fresh FM. A brand new voice to radio, this was a smashing opportunity for Kelly to advance her career in media and she’s doing it delightfully each weekday morning from 5:30AM. Get tuned in!

Pamela Sorensen
I first met Pamela when I was working as Director of Catering and Conference Services for Sofitel. In scouring the web for trusted local resources of where to go and what to do, Pamela’s Punch seemed to offer just that. After an introduction by Peter Abrahams of DC Magazine we partnered with Pamela for some local events at Le Bar in what proved to be a successful relationship for some time to come. Earlier this year Pamela announced an expansion of her business out to LA and has been spending her time between here and there to get things up and running. A talented writer and entrepreneur, Pamela is a pleasure to follow and know!

Stef Woods
My friend Stef Woods — Advocate, Sex Blogger, and Survivor – has battled breast cancer and undergone multiple treatments while sharing her journey and her strength as an advocate for the cause. Stef recently finished her treatment and invites you to join in celebration September 15, 2011 while raising money and awareness for Pink Jams — a Washington, DC area non-profit promoting early detection and breast cancer awareness to young men and women.

What do these ladies have in common? They’re social online and off, they know DC and do good things. And you’ll find them out and about at DC’s best events!
