National Race to End Women’s Cancer

| 10/27/2011

Every where you turn there’s an event, blog post, or tweet about breast cancer — rightly so, it is October and the month for awareness on this horrific disease. While we’re on the subject of cancer it’s fitting to advise you that DC actually has the highest ovarian cancer mortality rate in the nation. Women in my family have been affected by both forms so I am cautious to ensure I follow the guidelines for early detection if warranted. And so should you.

Jennie McGihon was just 32 when diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer and stage 1 uterine cancer, an otherwise healthy individual and marketing manager for Deloitte. Take a moment and listen to what Jennie has to say and why you should join the race for awareness November 6th.

The Foundation for Women’s Cancer aims to raise awareness and funds for all women’s below the belt gynecologic cancers (cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal and vulvar) and one of their major events is taking place in Washington, DC on November 6th. What better way to help fight an illness than bettering your own health and actively participating in an 8K run (or you can walk 1 mile instead!)?

You can run, walk, volunteer or cheer — just get to Freedom Plaza next week and show YOUR support for fighting women’s cancer.
