The Grape Festival Begins at Zaytinya

| 11/11/2011

In celebration of the fruit that changed the world, The Grape Festival at Zaytinya, a José Andrés restaurant and local DC favorite, will be providing two weeks worth of specialty cocktails, unique grape inspired dishes, and 26 featured wines, some of which are new to the DC area.

From November 14-27, Zaytinya will be preparing mezze style meals and pairing them with grape-themed cocktails and various wines. One of the best dishes on the menu is the Lamb Chops Agourides, which melts in your mouth and is made with a white wine reduction sauce, roasted grapes and honeycap mushrooms. Other notable delectable bites include Garides Me Ouzo (shrimp flamed in ouzo, roasted grapes, green olives, and dill), and Barbounia Tilihita Se Klimatofila (grilled, deboned whole red mullet wrapped in grape leaves, sultans, and roasted garlic).

The specialty cocktail for the festival, Bacchanalia, is a gorgeous sweet cocktail made with Balcones Rumble, lemon juice, house-made grape syrup, and a dash of Peychaud’s Bitters.

To top off the celebration, the night wouldn’t be complete without a grape-inspired dessert. Stafylión Granites is a surprising mix of textures and flavors consisting of grape granita, orange blossom yogurt cream, fresh grapes, and candied citrus. Served chilled, this dessert is the perfect size, texture, and temperature to finish off the night.

Already known as one of DC’s best restaurants, it would be a shame to not experience the Grape Festival flavors and festivities!
