The National Christmas Tree Lighting

| 11/20/2011

The whole year has been building up to this! It’s finally time for the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.

In 1923, President Calvin Coolidge walked from the White House to the Ellipse to light a 48-foot fir tree. On December 1, 2011 the 89th National Christmas Tree Lighting will take place on the Ellipse in President’s Park at the White House.

This year’s event is set to be bigger and better than ever. For the first time, the pre-show and lighting ceremony will be streamed live and will be available on demand. Special guests and performers include One Republic, Carson Daly, Rodney Atkins, Marsha Ambrosius, Kermit the Frog, and of course, Santa! Need more convincing? You can watch last years lighting ceremony here.

A great way to kick-off the last month of the year with the whole family! Bundle up and prepare to be wowed.

UPDATE: If you didn’t get tickets to the Tree Lighting Ceremony you can still celebrate by attending the Washington Wine Academy’s Wine Tasting and National Christmas Tree Outing.
