5th Annual Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Dip
Looking for something super cool to do this winter? How about jumping into Lake Anne in the dead of winter for the 5th Annual Freezin’ for a Reason Virginia Polar Dip??
The Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Dip is an annual event in which participants ‘chicken dip’ into the icy waters of Lake Anne with spectators cheering on, in support of Camp Sunshine. Brave souls come out in droves, dressed in fun costumes designed more for show than warmth.
The event will kick off on Saturday February 4th at 1:00 PM with family friendly activities and a much-needed – and I’m sure much appreciated — warm-up. The main event (the big dip) starts at 2:00 PM.
In 2008 the Toth family brought the Polar Dip from New Jersey to Virginia after their daughter, Jennifer participated in it through Camp Sunshine. The Toth’s first attended Camp Sunshine in 1996 when their daughter was a cancer patient at age 3, and they’ve been volunteers every summer since. Since it’s inception in 2008, 295 people have participated in the Virginia Polar Dip raising over $156,500 for the camp.
Last year’s event raised over $84,000 for Camp Sunshine. This year the goal is set at $100,000. Come out to support the great work Camp Sunshine is doing and bring your friends and family for what’s bound to be a great time!

Camp Sunshine, located in Lake in Casco, Maine, is a national year-round retreat. Every year it provides children with life-threatening illnesses and their families a safe, fun and stress reducing get-away. The year-round program is free of charge to the families and is staffed almost entirely by volunteers. In its 27 years, Camp Sunshine has hosted more than 35,000 people from 22 countries.
