Bikes and Booze – Living Life in the Fast Lane

| 02/19/2012

Next month, the Crystal City Business Improvement District is bringing gears and beers to Arlington with its inaugural Crystal City Diamond Derby.

On March 10, the parking garage at 18th and Crystal Drive will transform into an urban cycling arena, complete with a lounge (including an open bar and a big screen displaying the on-course action), spectator viewing areas, street art, live music and of course, cycling courses.

The day’s schedule is packed with races and activities for everyone from the serious cycler to the occasional spinner, and even kids and spectators. Kicking off the event is a D&Q River Ride – a casual nine-mile bicycle ride along the Potomac River, beginning on the National Mall at 12th Street and ending at the Diamond Derby. Other events include bike polo, a bike scavenger hunt, team and individual competitions, an awards ceremony and the Diamond Derby Ball.

The Derby is free and open to the public, but a small fee is required for participating cyclists. Visit http://diamond-derby.com/ for more information and registration details.
