One Lounge Launches Weekly Sunset Set Jazz Series
In a city known for its contributions to jazz (D.C. is, after all, the hometown to several famous jazz musicians, including Duke Ellington), it is not uncommon to find clubs that offer live jazz music most nights of the week. However, finding a venue that offers live jazz music conducive to conversation and an intriguing cocktail list in the heart of Dupont Circle is a bit tricky. But thanks to One Lounge and its new Tuesday night Sunset Set jazz series, your search is over.
H Street Festival is Happening This Weekend!
This coming Saturday, September 17th, marks “DC’s best neighborhood Festival” HStreetFestival2011. With the completion of the streetscape project and several newly established businesses with open doors Executive Director of H Street Main Street, Anwar Saleem, feels there’s plenty of reasons to celebrate.
Six Tempting Events To Sip Your Way Through September
Crystal City is expanding their Vintage Crystal brand to include six super fun events to sip through this September. The featured event — Vintage Crystal — will serve up fine wine, fabulous food, live jazz, and saucy salsa dancing all with a true Latin flavor. Happening every Friday in September — and we get five of those this month — Wine in the Water Park will feature wine and beers hand-selected by the Washington Wine Academy and complimentary bites from famed and fabulous Jaleo.
Wanamaker Wet Electronic Music and Water Festival
Now that’s a mouthful! Otherwise known as the Wanamaker Wet Party, Rach Events plans to make a splash in the DC live music events scene. Partnering with Rock the Vote and Metromix DC, this end-of-summer electronic music festival offers attendees entrance to the Yards fountain, water games, a giant foam pit, and ten straight hours of live international and local DJ talent including Sultan + Ned Shepard, Serge Devant and Tatiana Fontes. If you’re brave enough to battle it out in a swimsuit model competition with designer swimwear provided by east coast fashion retailer South Moon Under you might walk away with cash and prizes too! The contest will be judged by the festival’s Master of Ceremonies Bianca Chardei of America’s Next Top Model fame and South Moon Under.
Paul Sanchez Live at Acre 121 Benefitting Show Your Hearts
Toe-tapping tunes from New Orleans native, Paul Sanchez, will be filling the room at Acre 121 in Columbia Heights next week. With an energetic atmosphere, a low-country BBQ menu, specialty cocktails and beers, and upbeat live music, you can’t go wrong for your Friday night entertainment! While the show is a free event, donations will be accepted all night for the Show Your Hearts organization and 10% of the night’s total profits will go toward this important cause.
Columbia Heights Day
DC celebrates community, diversity, and service at the 5th Annual Columbia Heights Day this coming weekend. Expect two stages of live music performances, the return of the DC State Fair, morning yoga and a dog parade, kid’s zone and petting zoo, access to your favor DC food trucks, the 2nd Annual King & Queen of Columbia Heights Pageant, contests and raffle prices — all that and an after party!
GLEEKS Glee Party!
For all you “Gleeks” out there anticipating the upcoming release of Glee: The 3D Concert movie — there’s an event for that. Get on over to the Hard Rock Café this Wednesday and join Hot 99.5′s Sarah Fraser for a GLEE PARTY! They’ll have two local Glee Clubs performing (what, there’s a club for that?!) and will be showing two episodes of Glee. Guest will enjoy complimentary appetizers and a chance to win a GLEE Prize Pack including tickets to see an advance showing of the film and GLEE promotional items. Last night I was fortunate to enjoy the best of scandalous tales by making the wise and popular choice of seeing Wicked – The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz.

Join Joy of Motion Dance Center’s resident adult hip hop company DCypher Dance as they celebrate their five year anniversary at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington, DC on Saturday, July 9, 2011. The hip hop concert titled Ascension: Phase 5 features choreography from DCypher Dance member Nikki Gambhir, as well as a host of talented artists including Porche Anthony of Beat Ya Feet Kings – a Washington based hip hop dance crew who competed on Season 4 of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew.
