WHAT YOU MISSED
What Goes Down At The Hirshhorn After Hours?
Every year the Hirshhorn sheds its pristine museum persona and welcomes everyone to party After Hours. The museum regularly closes at 5:30 PM but on this particular evening the galleries are open 8:00 – 10:00 PM so you can check out the exhibits in a less formal mind set. Partygoers can start popping in at 8:00 PM. As it’s a Smithsonian you’ll get your bag checked at the door (so pack light!) except now your IDs are checked, and you get stamped for being 21. Once through security event organizers check you in on their iPads and it’s off to rock out!
The DC Foodies Do Good Group Volunteers at Miriam’s Kitchen
Everyone loves food, but no one loves it like a foodie. The term “foodie” encompasses a diverse group, including hipster locavores, wholesome homecooks and coupon-crazed cafe diners. Sometimes foodie is even a perjorative, implying a voracious gourmet with a “let-them-eat-cake” attitude. Playing against any negative stereotypes is the group, DC Foodies Do Good (DCFDG). Approximately once a month, DCFDG organizes one food-related volunteer opportunity to give back to the community, and one food-centric social event for festive face-time.
Jose Cuervo Ramps Up For Day of the Dead
Every Tuesday should be Tequila Tuesday! After the DC Social Media Meetup last night I headed over to Adam’s Morgan for a taste of what Jose Cuervo had to offer. Subterraneo delivered shadow dancers, models adorned in corpse bride-esque dresses with painted faces resembling sugar skulls, passed hors d’oeuvres, and a popping dance party – Mr. Cuervo knows how to please!
DC Women Gathered for Beauty Night Out at Longview Gallery
Wine, beauty and fashion, OH MY! Last night I had the pleasure of beating the mid work week blues by indulging in a girly night out. I’d previously attended for an architectural exhibit at Longview Gallery, but it was a whole new world this time around. Upon entering you could feel the female camaraderie, three ladies greet you at the door for check in, beyond them lie tables of bags, clothes, and products in their shiny, shimmering packaging taunting you to come by.
GRAMMYs on the Hill
DC had a taste of music celebrity last night when Stevie Wonder, Don Henley and Bruce Hornsby were in town for the 10th annual GRAMMYs on the Hill. I was honored to join my friend Lisa Byrne for the event which began with a performance of the National Anthem by Grammy-nominated saxophonist Dave Koz. One word: hot.
Science Fiction Gets Naughty at Artisphere
Amidst the serious and the suits of Washington, DC lurks secret science fiction enthusiasts, all of whom were out in full force at Artisphere this past Saturday night. Space cadets united at the Countdown to Yuri’s Night, the fourth production of this event by Art By Jared and Dutch Oven Burlesque.
Introducing The Great Gadsby, Chef of Ridgewells Catering Studio
I had the pleasure of attending “A Taste of Spring” last night at Ridgwells Catering’s Studio in Bethesda where our hostess, Ridgewells CEO Susan Lacz introduced their new Corporate Chef, Robert Gadsby, and the new menu he designed. After a short stint at Robert Wiedmaier’s Mussel Bar, Gadsby seemed relieved, almost happy to have made the switch from the restaurant world to the catering kitchen.
Witnessing the Reach for Autism Miracles
The R4AM grant program was established to provide financial assistance to families whose children are affected by Autism. Apart from the fact that this wonderful organization was created by two of my favorite Northern Virginians, Rob and Ann Marie Morasco, one of the most redeeming qualities is that supporters know exactly where their donations go.
Cherry Blast is Fittingly Named!
Produced by The Pink Line Project, last night marked the third annual event. A $10 ticket gets you admission to see a live band and dance performances, a peek at localartists’ work, and your first drink of choice. Using a venue that was once a lounge, Art Whino filled the space with local art.
DC Fashionistas Warm Up Worn Magazine Launch Event
On this clear but chilly Friday night, you see swarms of the beautiful, the fabulous and the fashionably dressed. They are sipping the never ending flow of champagne, discussing art, new designers and of course the third issue of Worn Magazine. The crowd is bumping elbows in a gorgeous museum filled with installations of modern work. You might think this event was a scene right out of New York City, but alas, it is right here in our very own Washington, DC!
