Film Series at the National Gallery of Art by Andy Warhol

The National Gallery of Art is presenting a series of films by Andy Warhol in the original 16 mm format. While Warhol may be better known for his pop art paintings such as the Marilyn Diptych (which I know you’ve recreated with one of your own photos at some point!) and his sensational social life, he also created roughly 650 films and 4,000 videos in the mid to late sixties.
The National Christmas Tree Lighting
The whole year has been building up to this. It’s finally time for the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. In 1923, President Calvin Coolidge walked from the White House to the Ellipse to light a 48-foot fir tree. On December 1, 2011 the 89th National Christmas Tree Lighting will take place on the Ellipse in President’s Park at the White House. This year’s event is set to be bigger and better than ever. For the first time, the pre-show and lighting ceremony will be streamed live and will be available on demand.
District Innovation: A Showcase of Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation in DC

Italian Embassy Annual Black Tie Holiday Gala
Get dolled and suited up for the Italian Embassy’s annual Black Tie Holiday Gala on Saturday, December 3rd. After the champagne and eggnog flow for the VIP’s at 7:30 PM, the general reception begins at 8:30 PM, including such delicacies as a selection of Baroque, Romantic, and contemporary Opera, a buffet of traditional Italian cuisine, extensive arrays of local desserts and chocolates, as well as an open bar of Italian wines and beers until the stroke of midnight.
